TEL Deconstruction

by zina last modified 2008-06-16 05:42

Objective
The purpose of this workshop is to initiate a careful thought about the added value of both innovative learning scenarios and advanced learning technologies. Deconstruction (introduced first in philosophy, then in architecture, and finally in design) can be described as the process of cracking, opening and disturbing the secure nutshell of the preconceived ideas and accepted models. We will discuss in this workshop how deconstructing Technology-Enhanced Learning approaches and solutions could lead to the actual breakthroughs that would turn the today society into a true knowledge one.

Organization
After a short introduction of the concept of deconstruction and the presentation of a real-world case study (15min), groups will be formed. Each group will select either a learning scenario or a learning technology from their own environments that could be deconstructed (15 min)*. Then, the groups will actually deconstruct it, reconstruct an alternative paradigm (20min) and then present their findings (30min). The workshop will end with a general discussion (10min).

Topics might be, for example: deconstructing classroom teaching, deconstructing Moodle, deconstructing my PhD field study, deconstructing my PhD Web 2.0 prototype, deconstructing the summer school program, …

Preparation
Participants could already think about possible scenarios or solutions that could be selected as deconstruction candidates.
