Context Modelling and Automatic Identification of Context

by zina last modified 2007-04-23 15:48

The notion of context is very broad in computer science. It is used in many different domains and applications. Context menus in applications or location-aware mobile services are probably one of the most prominent examples of context-aware applications. A long history in research exist in this area. But more and more other domains become interested in using context to enhance functionality and simplify the interaction of the user with the system. One of these new domains is learning. We will show how the user's and the environmental context can be used to enhance the learning of the user with computer systems. The lecture will cover the questions (one view on) what is context. What context aware systems and applications are commonly used in the computer science domain. Additionally, we will cover what methods extist to model the context and how to acquire the context from (low-level) sensors. Showing what methods exist to infere the context by applying machine learning techniques to gathered data.
